Wind Turbine, Hydro Turbine & Solar Charge Controllers

Tristar TS-45 & TS-60 Solar/Turbine Charge Controllers These charge controllers are able to work in 3 different modes, with Solar they can work in either Charge Control, Diversion Control or Load Control. With Turbines they work in Charge Control with Diversion into Dump Loads. For use in Battery-Based systems, these rugged charge controllers offer protection against overcharging when used with our solar panels or wind turbines. The Tristar TS-60 is capable of handling charging or dumping currents of 60A, the Tristar TS-45 is able to handle 45A, both are suitable for use with battery banks of 12/24 and 48Volts. In order to use these controllers with your Turbine and Battery Bank, you will require a suitable dump load for connection to the Tristar. Please see our Dump Load section below for more info. Dump Loads are not necessary for Solar Panel only systems. Dump Loads are necessary for most turbines as the turbine must be kept loaded (producing power) at all times, otherwise they can run too fast and suffer damage without a suitable load. We can also supply 24 & 48v Standard 2.25" BSP Direct Replacement 1KW Immersion Heaters for use with our turbines. PLEASE NOTE - These are PWM Controllers not "MPPT" Controllers, however MPPT controllers (at this time!) are not generally suitable for Turbine use as they have no diversion/dump load capabilities. If you wanted to use an MPPT controller for turbine use, you need some form of voltage clamp or an additional PWM Controller in parallel to keep the turbine loaded.

Dump Loads

For use with our Tristar TS-45/60, Xantrex C40/C60 charge controllers, these dump loads are effectively high power air heating elements. The charge controllers are used in 'Load Diversion' mode, and as such, they begin to dissipate any unwanted power into these dump loads as your battery bank becomes fully charged. The charge controllers use a Pulse Width Modulation Output governed by a built in battery charging programme, which means that they gradually switch the power to the dump load (this is a requirement of most wind turbines - to be kept under load) as the voltage increases, thereby keeping your batteries in tip top condition. It is vital to use a charge controller to prevent damage to your batteries, especially if you leave your system unattended for long periods of time. These dump loads should be mounted as close as possible to your charge controller. They should be mounted in free circulating air, and not in an enclosed space. All cabling used should be securely connected. Please ensure that you choose the correct voltage of dump load for the battery bank voltage you are charging. The dump loads are rated at 600W for the 12V and 1kW for the 24 and 48V systems to complement the Futurenergy Turbines and PMGs or any similar output devices. 24 & 48VDC Immersion Heater NEW - Lower Price!   24 and 48 Volt Immersion (Water) Heaters

Made specially for us  - 1000w @ 24 or 48 volt UK standard copper immersion heater. This can be used in a water heating application in preference to dumping any excess energy from the battery into the air with a standard dump load.  The heating element is approx 13” long and also has a 10.5” copper pocket. This pocket is designed to take normal thermostats, however in a dump load configuration you should not turn off the heater element unless you have an alternative load that comes in to maintain the load on the system. It connects to the tank via a standard UK 2.25” BSP thread, as a direct replacement for the normal Mains Immersion Heater. This product has been specially designed to work with alternative energy water heating applications.

Turbine DC Isolator & Stop Switch

 

The DC Isolator and Brake should be connected to the output of the wind turbine, between it and the load (inverter, batteries etc). The main rotary switch is rated at 63A and is 4-pole. In this mode, the internal connections have been pre-wired in pairs of 2 poles, giving a massive switching capacity of 120A. Also mounted inside these switches are a low resistance "dump load", allowing the turbine to be slowed to a safe level before applying a direct "short circuit" to the turbine output wires. Blade Sets

 

These wind turbine blade sets are constructed to the highest of standards, and are used at the heart of our 1KW upwind range. They can easily be adapted to suit other turbines, and will produce up to 1.2kW of power in 12.5m/s winds. The blade set comes in kit form, including 3 x high-spec blades, manufactured in black PAG material (virtually indestructible, and don't require painting), with 2 x 3-blade hubs (black anodised finish) and location pitch pins (25 degree root angle). Once assembled, the complete rotor, measuring 1800mm in diameter, can be adapted to suit many power generators, and will perform best in the 300 to 900 RPM range. The hub is supplied with enough nuts & bolts to assemble the complete rotor, and has 3 mounting holes, each of 6mm in diameter, positioned in a triangular shape at a PCD of 90mm. The main boss hole in the hub has a diameter of 74.6mm, and care should be taken to accurately, securely and centrally mount the completed rotor on to your intended application.

In order to achieve the best results from these blades, the final rotor assembly should be balanced by the user prior to being used in any application. Neither EnergiStar, FuturEnergy Ltd, nor the blade manufacturers accept any responsibility for any issues arising from unbalanced rotors in any application. Each blade set will be supplied with instructions on how to perform a 'static balance' of the assembled rotor, and it is the user's responsibility to ensure that every effort has been made to address any balancing issues prior to using these blades.

Wind Turbine - 5 Blade 1.8M Blade Sets These are the 5 Blade version of the above Blade Set, these are more suitable for low wind areas having greater starting torque and were used very successfully on the previous model of Futurenergy Turbine for 8 years or more. These blade sets are now available in Off White as well as Black The actual colour of the blades surface appears mottled due to the impregnation of the glass re-enforcement during the injection moulding process - these blades must not be painted.
